About In world travel can you get a tourist ship that goes all the way around the world leaving from Boston

In world travel can you get a tourist ship that goes all the way around the world leaving from Boston?
In the 1950s area "Slow Boat to China" was a favorite tune. I love to travel. Is there a way to Travel by boat from Boston all around the world to the other side to Thailand, Or would it be Boston Europe, Train then short plane flight for Bangcock? The only time I was on a ship was 1963 from NewYork to Germany aboard a military troop ship. I wonder if anyone here has gone that long distance to the other side of the world on a tourist ship?

About travel boston a week before christmas, any suggestion for the sightseeing spot in BOSTON

TRAVEL BOSTON a week before christmas, any suggestion for the sightseeing spot in BOSTON?
I will stay for 6 dys, 5 nights. Think about going to NYC too, do you think it is possible? Is there any bus service to NYC?

Answer 1 :
There is bus service to NYC from Boston. Just beware of the cheap bus in Chinatown that goes to NYC. It's scarey or so I hear repeatedly. There is a lot to do in Boston. The North End has a lot of great Italian restaurants. My favorite is Al Dente on Hanover St. (great Italian food at a reasonable price) I like the Museum of Fine Arts. It depends on what you are into. I don't usually go into Boston in the winter. My husband and I go in the summer mostly because it's a walking city so dress warmly. Newbury St. is a cool place to walk because they have some interesting and unique shops. Of course, they have a lot of national stores now so it's lost some of its charm. There are some decent restaurants over there. You will have more fun in NYC but of course it's even more expensive than Boston.
Answer 2 :
you can go to the science museum or the muesum of fine arts. you can go to the aquarium. you can go to the Boston Bruins game or the Boston Celtics. You can go downtown, chinatown. You can go to the sea district and eat lobster. there is a ton of stuff to do in boston. Also, you can take the train to NYC. Just go to south station.
Answer 3 :
For sightseeing you could get tickets for a show or go to Chinatown. Live in Ma, been there millions of time.
Answer 4 :
Don't miss Fanuel Hall!! It's awesome. They have some cheap buses to N.Y. but they are always breaking down or just don,t show up. The North End in Boston has some great places to eat. Massachusetts is big on decorating for xmas we have a lot of holiday spirit so no matter where you go you will see some pretty xmas lights. You should rent a car so you can sight see because there is so much to see. Have Fun whatever you do!!
Answer 5 :
Go around the South End, it is marvelous.

About how do I travel from Boston Logan airport to western mass

How do I travel from Boston Logan airport to western mass?
I'm going to be flying into Logan airport. I know that MBTA connects to the airport, so I figured I would connect to Amtrak somehow and take it to Springfield.. What's the name of Boston's central station (the equivalent to NYC's Grand Central of LA's Union Station) where subways and trains converge?
Boston - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Take the Silver Line bus service from Logan Airport to Boston's South Station http://www.mbta.com/rider_tools/trip_planner/default.asp Train 449 The Lake Shore Limited runs daily from Boston to Springfield. http://tickets.amtrak.com/itd/amtrak
Answer 2 :
You have many more options if you take Peter Pan Bus. Amtrak to Springfield (direct route) only runs once per day in each direction. Peter Pan has more than 8. Boston has 2 main stations where trains and subways come together, and those two don't directly connect to each other. South Station is the main Amtrak station, the main bus terminal, on the Red and Silver Lines, and the terminus for south and west-bound commuter rail. North Station has Amtrak's Maine service, north bound commuter rail, and the Orange and Green subway lines. ADDED: Peter Pan Bus also leaves from the Airport, no need to go to South Station.
Answer 3 :
The subways and and trains converge at all of Boston's RR stations. There is no central station but two terminal stations: South and North, and then there is a 2nd busy station, Back Bay, serving most but not all of the southward and one westward line, the one you will take for Springfield, which originates at South Station. There is at present only one train a day from Boston to Springfield, and I think reserved seats are necessary. You may wish to consider instead taking the bus, which leaves from the central bus terminal which is part of the South Station complex (one walks doen Platform 1 to reach the bus terminal from the train terminal). To get to South Station from the airport take the Silver Line articulated bus right at your terminal. The trip takes about 12 minutes.

About what's the cheapest way to travel from NYC to Boston with a small dog

What's the cheapest way to travel from NYC to Boston with a small dog?
Hi! I have an 18-lb French Bulldog who fits nicely in a Sherpa duffel bag. We will need to travel between NYC and Boston around the holiday. I have kind of a tight budget... renting a car is pretty steep. Any other ideas? Thanks!
New York City - 1 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Amtrak and bus companies won't let you bring your dog with you on board. And, if they catch you smuggling your dog on board, they'll kick you off. However, local train services might let you take your dog and you would have to call them to find out. Otherwise, you're left with two options: drive or fly. If these options are too expensive, the only alternative is to board the dog while you're gone or have someone stay at your house to take care of him. And, the cost of boarding the dog every day is probably more than the daily cost of renting a car.

About Is it worthwhile to travel to Boston

Is it worthwhile to travel to Boston?
I'm from the UK and I'm quite interested in going to Boston sometime in the summer next year after I graduate. What's the atmosphere like, do you live there or have you travelled there before and would you recommend it?
Boston - 13 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
yes..esp in the summer
Answer 2 :
Yesssssssssssssssssssssss. Yes. Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssss Yes. Yesssssssssssssssssssssssss
Answer 3 :
Other than the fact that it is cold in the winter, Boston should be an interesting place to see. It is Philly that has the most ugly people, not Boston, according to the latest survey:
Answer 4 :
Yes I live just south of Boston and I am sure you would really enjoy Boston it is usually warm to hot in the summer but not to hot and you can take really don't need to drive as public transportation is readily available to get almost anywher worth going. Have a Great Trip!
Answer 5 :
YES!!!! its VERY worth it! If your looking for shopping you can go to the prudential Mall, or if you just wanna hang out you should go to the quincy market, only go to the freedom trail on sunny days, once in a while theres a fun fair to attend!
Answer 6 :
It's worth going. Sometimes it gets very hot and humid in the city, but there are beaches just a short drive, bus, or train ride away. Also, there are outdoor plays and concerts and a very relaxed atmosphere. Many students stay in town for the summer, so the social scene is pretty lively. Don't miss out on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard, which are excellent day trips -- especially if you can travel there during the week when the traffic isn't so bad.
Answer 7 :
yes i loved it
Answer 8 :
nooo... not worth it. go to NYC
Answer 9 :
Visited there a couple weeks ago and wished I had more time to explore. If you are going to be there for more than a day or two, would recommend you renting a car and seeing some of the sights in the rest of New England. For us Yanks, they are all relatively close, we spent a week and went through seven of the "New England" states with no problem and had a fabulous time. If I had to do it again though, I would split it up and spend a week on the coast, then a week in the western areas of Vermont, Massachusetts and eastern New York.
Answer 10 :
Boston is totally worth the trip.
Answer 11 :
See some of the other comments on here and you'll see it's not only worth it but you'll wonder why you hadn't come here sooner.
Answer 12 :
I've lived here all my life and as a pilot I have been to many different city's and after all is said and done Boston hands down is the nicest place to be.
Answer 13 :
Yes I used to live their and visit a lot. Harvard square is a cool place to shop! Also the atmosphere is nice. You can have lots of fun there! Cambridge is where harvard square is it is one of my favorite places to be. Newberry street is a nice place to buy desighner things. Boston also has a very nice aquarium. Also a nice science muesem. Take a duck tour they run by the science muesem and I think you can buy tickets at the muesem! I highly recomend going Buy a travel book at your local bookstore and they will have even more fun Ideas!

About travel to Boston with our baby of 8 months

Travel to Boston with our baby of 8 months?
I'm planning to travel for 2 days to Boston with our baby of 8 months. Is a good city to go with him?? Which hotels do you recommend that are very good located? I'm looking for a place that is good located, safety area and its close to everything so we can walk at day and at night without problems. What do you recommend. thanks you
Boston - 3 Answers

Answer 1 :
Boston is a great city to bring kids, as long as the weather is nice when you come. Getting a 3+ star hotel anywhere in the immediate downtown area will be fine; lots of hotels to choose from - but having something in the immediate downtown area will allow you to be within walking and subway distance to most activities. For kids; my suggestion is the Aquarium and the Science Museum, both places are interesting for both kids and adults. Also, you can do the "Boston Duck" tours, for which you can get tickets at the science museum, and take a ride in a vehicle that goes both on land and water and gives you a tour of Boston.
Answer 2 :
Sound good to me. just stay away from dorchester, roxbury, mattapan, jamacia plain.
Answer 3 :
Oh the common will be beautiful this time of year, it is, i was there on Wednesday. I love Boston in the spring. Beacon Hill is a gorgeous neighborhood, also.

About travel from Boston to New York next summer

Travel from Boston to New York next summer?
My girlfriend and I are planning on flying out to Boston, getting a car, and travelling up the coast to New York to fly back to Denver. I'm looking for any ideas "off the beaten path" to see/do, and also, what is the best/cheapest way to plan this itinerary? She's never been to the East Coast, so I really want to make it a memorable trip. Our time frame is 1-1/2 weeks.

I'm from upstate NY - What do you like doing? What month are you coming. If its during the july/aug time I would say definitly stop at saratoga race track. Saratoga is beautiful and the race track is amazing! What airport are you flying out of?
Answer 2 :
I would definitely stay in Boston for a couple of days....great downtown...fun bars and shops...plenty to do. Then head down to Newport, Rhode Island....it is an older little town along the coast. It's really pretty and you can go on tours of old historic mansions....its not boring...its actually really interesting. Its a nice town to experience the ocean and stuff....very calm and relaxing. In upstate, NY Saratoga Springs is cool for the horse races. http://www.newportchamber.com/ Vermont is really pretty too....but since you're from Co you are better off seeing more of the ocean sites versus the mountains. NJ is really known for the ocean....and if you want to experience more of the craziness & bars......were everyone hangs out in the summer....that is the place to be...towns such as Point Pleasant, Belmar, Seaside, Wildwood all cater to the 20 somethings (age). Belmar is only about 1.5 hrs from NYC so you can easily spend a day or night there.

About what is the best time to travel through Boston in the morning

What is the best time to travel through Boston in the morning?
On Sunday I will be traveling I93 Southbound through Boston to Plymouth...My plan is to leave home around 5AM, which would put me in Boston around 8AM...what am I in for? Should I plan to be in Boston even earlier to avoid a lot of traffic? (getting into Boston later really isn't an option that day since I want to be in Plymouth no later than 9:30ish). On Monday, I will be traveling back northbound...what hours should I avoid Boston this day? Thanks so much for the help!
Boston - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Sunday traffic should be light. No worries. Monday rush hour is roughly 6:30-9:30 a.m., so that's the time to avoid if you can.
Answer 2 :
In addition to avoiding the Monday morning rush hour 6:30 - 9:30 AM avoid the evening rush hour by not traveling (time leaving Plymouth) 3-6:30 PM.
Answer 3 :
Never... On the weekends it's not to bad the Braintree split is clear.. Monday NB is bad... typical delays: Marshfield (Rt 3 N Exit 12) (about 7A) Derby St. (Rt 3 N Exit 15 Hinghan) 730ish Braintree rotary (Rt 3 N Exit 17) Braintree Split (Rt 3/93 merge) 645 ish HOV (Nbound Sout east Expressway Southie at savenhill) anytime If is rains or snows forget it

Where can I buy cheap travel tickets from Boston to Upstate NY?
Where can I buy cheap bus or train tickets from Boston to Upstate NY(preferably to or near Albany)? I can travel from Boston to NYC for less than $15 using some travel companies but I can't find anything near that for travel from Boston to Albany or Upstate NY.

You could check Craigslist for tickets -- or find someone who wants to share a ride. That would probably be the cheapest way to go.

About best way to travel between NYC and Boston

Best way to travel between NYC and Boston?
I live in Boston and travel to NYC often to see a friend. I usually take the $15 chinatown buses, but they are so incredibly slow (trip is often 5-6 hrs NOT in traffic). Amtrak can be a little pricey, so I was thinking of driving down to Stamford or something like that and catching the commuter train. I am not sure if this is will be worth it economically either between all of the tolls, commuter fare, parking, etc. Any suggestions? I am going down for memorial day weekend.
Boston - 9 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Take Amtrak and aviod the tolls, traffic, and parking.
Answer 2 :
the only toll between Boston and Stamford is on the mass pike. I don't take 95 all the way when I drive. Usually form Boston to NY mass pike(90) west to 84 to 91 south to 95 south the Stanford metro north station is right off 95
Answer 3 :
We live in NYC and travel to Boston a couple of times a year. We use Greyhound or Peter Pan out of Port Authority Bus Terminal. Much nicer than the Chinatown buses and not much more expensive. It usually takes us about 4 1/2 hours. By the time you drive, and park and wait for the train etc. it is probably not going to save you that much time and will certainly cost you more money. PS-My wife wants to move to Boston, but I tell her she is not ready for the winter there.
Answer 4 :
most likley the subway
Answer 5 :
I travel between NYC and Boston every 2-3 months. I always take the Greyhound bus--it's definitely nicer than the Chinatown bus. If you take a direct bus (no stops) it's usually around 4 hours and costs $45 round trip. Good luck!
Answer 6 :
We took the train from Katonah a couple of times and Irvington before that, but it seems that Irvington is the place to go once again (now that no more temp permits are allowed in Katonah). Irvington is especially good since you can transfer to the subway at Marble Hill, allowing you to get right into NYC without having to go to Grand Central. Total time was 4 hours into NYC
Answer 7 :
My recommendation would be to invest in either a treo with google maps or get a GPS with traffic info. You can then choose where to stop on the way down to hop on a train. My personal favorite is always Stamford because the parking is safe and there are a few trains (Amtrak and regional) that go through there.
Answer 8 :
Driving to Stamford? Heck, you might as well drive right into NYC if you are going that far. From Framingham (Logan Express area), you can take a limo to NYC. It runs daily for $85...never used it. As native NY'er, I can assure you that on Memorial Day weekend, you will hit a boat-load of traffic, especially on certain arteries between BOS & NY. If you leave at the wrong time, it will take you over 6 hours to get to NY by car/commuter rail. I say take Amtrak's Xcela Express and pay the money. If you must drive, avoid I-95 and I-84. Instead, take the Mass Pike to the NY Thruway, and go south. At Exit 17 (Newburgh), you can get onto I-84 EAST. Go over the Hudson River and exit at 11 (Beacon). There is a Metro North Rail station there which has easy parking options (some spaces are free off street). It is about 45 minutes to the city from that station. Total trip should be no longer than 4 1/2 hours. You shouldn't be stuck in any major traffic going that way. Good luck.
Answer 9 :
Amtrak's definitely the nicest way but unfortunately it's fairly expensive. Driving to Stamford is an OK option bu in the long run it may not be a better option than Amtrak, if it's just one person traveling especially. (Like if there were 2 people traveling you'd have to buy 2 Amtrak tickets, but the cost of driving - gas, tolls, parking in Stamford, etc. would be pretty much the same, you'd only need the extra commuter rail ticket from Stamford-NYC). If you're going to drive, then parking in Stamford and taking the commuter train into NYC is absolutely the way to go - way easier and cheaper than driving and parking in Manhattan. If you travel down to NYC frequently you could try it once and see if it's worth it in the long run. So I would say it might be a little bit cheaper than Amtrak, if you're going by yourself, but also might not save you any time and it's not as pleasant as Amtrak. (Plus if you take Amtrak you can read, do work, sleep, etc... all things that you can't do if you're driving). Also - if you ever do take Amtrak - taking the Acela to NYC isn't worth the extra cost, the trains aren't THAT much nicer and it doesn't save enough time to justify the significantly higher fare. The regional trains are still fun, hehe.
Answer 10 :
Peter Pan or Bonanza Bus Lines
