About what is the cheapest way to travel from Boston to NYC this time of year

What is the cheapest way to travel from Boston to NYC this time of year?
looking for something that does not require reservation .... ideally train (maybe bus ... I see bus fares starting at $15 each way). I am making plans at the last minute and don't want to commit or spend a lot of money (under $100 round trip on transportation) if at all possible. I will be traveling light (baggage wise). any suggestions or recommendations? I would be interested in good/bad experiences with specific bus lines and I have not travelled by bus in a long time.

i think its called fung wah bus. its really cheap, but they always have tons of problems. i always see them on the news....they are breaking down or catching fire. if you wanna take your chances, its a really good price. if your traveling alone, i definately would not use this servive. good luck
Answer 2 :
Fung wah is a death trap, there is another one called the lucky star that is either cheaper or a couple bucks more. It's just like riding a greyhound bus. Also, it's easier to get back from Ny to boston...they just drop you off on a street corner in chinatown in New york.
Answer 3 :
Actually, Lucky Star is just as bad as Fung Wah. I've taken Lucky Star before without any problems. $15 each way from South Station in Boston to China Town in NYC. The bus sat about 50 people but only 10 were on the bus. We stopped once at a Roy Rogers during the 4 hour trip. I had absolutely no problems whatsoever but there are so many stories of Fung Wah and Lucky Star buses breaking down, flipping over and things like that. I'm not going to risk it again. Now I take Amtrak between Stamford Connecticut and Boston. For me, it's about $53 each way. It takes me about 3 hours. Going to the city would be a bit more expensive. You could always do Peter Pan for about $55 between Port Authority and South Station. That would probably take around 4 hours. Good luck and enjoy Boston!!
Answer 4 :
try peter pan bus or greyhound bu.
Answer 5 :
The Chinese buses are not that bad! I've read about some problems, but considering how many runs they make, it's very infrequent. In fact, in Boston they now use the South Station bus terminal. Why waste the extra money? it's very quick and cheap!
Answer 6 :
The Chinatown Buses (Fung Wah, and Lucky Star) are okay. . . I think in the past they had a lot of problems, and overall have a bad impression of them. Someone I work with lives in New York, and works with me in Boston so every weekend he takes the bus back to New York. We've worked together for about 2 years and honestly he's only had a problem once, and that was a very bad snow storm. All the other times he says its fine. So for the price, try it. Don't be too uptight if there' a short delay.

i've taken Fung Wah, it wasn't that bad. I have a feeling that the scary stories about it are exaggerated. According to wikipedia there have been five accidents and mishaps in the past couple years, none of which resulted in serious injuries, which considering that they run 20 times a day, every day, is not that bad. But, you can take the Greyhound for the same price if you buy the ticket online at http://www.greyhound.com/home/en/DealsAndDiscounts/eSavers.aspx It takes slightly longer, and they stop at the Port Authority terminal. The bus is maybe slightly nicer than Fung Wah but it no big difference. Fung Wah and Lucky Star stop in Chinatown at the end of the Manhattan bridge.
Answer 8 :
Take the Greyhound bus from South Station. Its cheap, and you won't be taking your life in your hands like on the Fung Wah. They've been cited multiple times for safety violations and have had several accidents in recent years. Just say no to Fung Wah!
