About Is Boston a safe place to travel

Is Boston a safe place to travel ?
Im a 21 year old, female, from California, and im going to visit some friends over in Boston in October. Im going to stay for about 1 week. Ive been wanting to go to Boston for the longest time, and now i finally got the chance to. My friends who live in Boston, can only get a couple of days off during my stay in Boston. I was just wondering if its safe to travel alone in Boston, while my friends are at work? And what are some fun things to do in Boston? Thanks so much for your help.

Answer 1 :
Yes. Boston is one of the safest major cities in the USA. That does not mean that there are unsafe neighborhoods. Roxbury is notorious for crime, Dorchester and Allston aren't much better. However, most of your touristy areas, except Chinatown are safe ( go in the day, it could get rough at night) . Also, don't do anything foolish, use common sense. October is a nice time to come as the fall foliage will be near peak. However, it can get chilly, something to take into account if you're from a warm climate. I have been alone through many areas in Boston without any problems, you should be fine.
Answer 2 :
It depends where in Boston theres some places that are bad and some that are good
Answer 3 :
Sure is, as long as you stay away from Mattapan, Roxbury, Dorchester and generally the southern areas you should be fine.

About Is it possible to travel from Boston, MA to Pittsburgh, PA in one day

Is it possible to travel from Boston, MA to Pittsburgh, PA in one day?
More specifically, from Boston University to Carnegie Mellon University. I am planning a trip and I have one full day, 4/19 (Tuesday), to make it from Boston to Pittsburgh, counting in stops for food. I don't mind leaving really early and arriving really late. Also, how much time should I allow to make the trip. Please don't give use mapquest to give me the answer.

Answer 1 :
Is it possible? I`d hope you can do it , I go from a little island on the west coast to Boston in 1 day , even stop for a cold beer in Chicago on the way.
Answer 2 :
In 05 left here in Pittsburgh for Boston drove all day and all night took 12 - 13 hours with very quick stops no more than 15 min only stopped four times hope you enjoy Pittsburgh make sure you visit the Strip District and Dave's Music Mine in South Side
Answer 3 :
Fly. Kayak.com is showing Delta at $85 one way on 4/19, USAir at $125 for a 1.5 hour flight. With the price of gas and road food, is it worth it to drive?
Answer 4 :
If you must drive, Philly' about 6 hrs, (from experience), then Pittsburgh is another 5 1/2 hrs. (from Google Earth). And if you're on 95 going through NYC at the wrong time, all bets are off (from experience).
Answer 5 :
According to mapquest, it is roughly 10 1/2 hours.

Answer 1 :
Train, plane, or bus. I would choose train.
Answer 2 :
Go for either the Amtrak or the Greyhound. Here are the links: www.amtrak.com www.greyhound.com
Answer 3 :
Going by train is quite nice, if you can't afford the airfare. Much less smelly and tiring than a bus. You are also up higher than a bus, and get a better view. Trains often go through more wooded (and more picturesque) areas.
Answer 4 :
definitely the train!
Answer 5 :
Train is the easiest. Once you're in Boston, hop on the Red line. Go to South Station. From there you can purchase a ticket to New York on the commuter rail. Probably takes about three to four hours to get there. You can also buy the ticket round trip if you choose to do so.
Answer 6 :
The express train is really quick and fairly comfortable.
Answer 7 :
Katie is right about the train, but wrong about which one!! The Commuter Rail does not go to New York! It is Amtrak.
Answer 8 :
I have done it by bus but I'd imagine the train is more comfortable but more expensive.
Answer 9 :
the absolute cheapest way to go is the Fung Wah bus - $15 each way - but the ride takes approximately 4 hours. http://www.fungwahbus.com Personally, I pay the extra cash to take the Acela Express by Amtrak. http://www.amtrak.com
Answer 10 :
I'll take the Greyhound bus or Fungwah bus. Everything (armtrack train, all buses) are located in South Station. So if you are in Boston, just take the red line to South Station.
Answer 11 :
You could try the train but by far the cheapest is the Chinatown train. It goes from Chinatown (Boston) to Chinatown (New York) for ten bucks.
Answer 12 :
There's a bus that goes from Chinatown in Boston to Chinatown in NYC direct and I hear it's WAY cheap. (Like $25 or so round trip.) Otherwise, I'd do the train. There are commuter flights from Logan to Laguardia, but if you don't have a car on either end, it might not work for you.
Answer 13 :
They offer low price shuttles
Answer 14 :
going by train is definatly the best way!!

bus
Answer 2 :
i would go by airplane:)
Answer 3 :
I think your choices are A). Hitchhike (illegal on the Mass. Pike) or B). Bus (www.greyhound.com or www.peterpanbus.com).. Sorry but they tore up the trolley tracks in the late 1920's/1930's, and there's no train service to Amherst. Flying?! Yeah, SURE!!! In a Cessna or Piper Cub maybe...
Answer 4 :
Peter Pan bus. It's around $15 each way and you get it right downtown at South Station.
Answer 5 :
Try http://www.ridebuzz.org That weekend is the end of Spring Break for UMass Amherst Students so many of them will be returning to campus. You may be able to get a ride with someone for part of the cost of gas.

About In world travel can you get a tourist ship that goes all the way around the world leaving from Boston

In world travel can you get a tourist ship that goes all the way around the world leaving from Boston?
In the 1950s area "Slow Boat to China" was a favorite tune. I love to travel. Is there a way to Travel by boat from Boston all around the world to the other side to Thailand, Or would it be Boston Europe, Train then short plane flight for Bangcock? The only time I was on a ship was 1963 from NewYork to Germany aboard a military troop ship. I wonder if anyone here has gone that long distance to the other side of the world on a tourist ship?
